January 12, 2008: Christmas carols filled the air and holiday gifts were passed out on December 20, when BPSOS-Falls Church staff and Peer Companions (our specially-trained senior community leaders) visited the Leewood Healthcare Center in Annandale, Virginia. Over 30 residents got to hear the musical talents of their visitors, who brought along traditional Vietnamese instruments for everyone to enjoy. The BPSOS staff and Peer Companions also got to visit personally with 16 Vietnamese seniors!

The BPSOS team, which was organized by the Seniors and Trauma Survivors Empowerment Program (STEP) to brighten the holidays for the elderly, distributed over 50 packages consisting of donated socks, washcloths, and other particularly useful items for seniors. BPSOS-Falls Church thanks the community members for their thoughtful donations, and is grateful to work with such caring and generous Peer Companions.

The halls are alive with the sound of music, played on Vietnamese instruments!  Here, Co Kim Oanh plays “Silent Night” on the zither.

Spreading a little holiday cheer, one present at a time. That’s the Peer Companions! Co Le Mong Hoa and volunteer Anh Nguyen give a gift to a senior.
