February 17, 2009: Hurricane Ike’s impact is still being felt in the Houston-area Vietnamese-American community and beyond, so the BPSOS Emergency Response and Recovery Program is proud and excited that Dan Nguyen is joining us as our new intake specialist/program assistant!

As part of the Houston team, she will conduct intake of limited-English proficient (LEP) hurricane survivors to ensure that they and their communities receive timely and adequate services, including legal assistance. She will work closely with her BPSOS colleagues to provide clients with linguistically and culturally competent services, building on the assistance the Houston office has already offered to well over 1,000 people and their families.

A 2002 graduate of the University of Law of South Vietnam, Nguyen previously worked with two law firms in Vietnam. She has helped lawyers research and prepare legal documents while organizing and tracking files of important case documents. In addition, she has volunteered to help BPSOS-Houston translate documents, complete basic immigration forms, and classify documents.
