March 27, 2009: Boat People SOS (BPSOS) is a national Vietnamese-American community-based organization with 26 years of service. We are seeking a motivated, tech-savvy individual to be part of the organizational development of Technology Support Systems for our national network of 13 offices totaling approximately 160 users. In the first year, the IT lead technician will primarily focus on the implementation and ongoing IT support for our Hurricane Ike Disaster Recovery Center operations throughout Southeast Texas.

Job Summary: Information systems technicians are a part of the IT team that performs end-user support activities. At this level of function, technicians provide help desk support for end users and provide technical support in installing and configuring computer and systems hardware and software programs, as well as end-user support. This position performs routine to complex troubleshooting for hardware and software systems and may serve as a lead to lower-level staff.

Responsibilities

Respond to help desk calls and emails

Assist with web access

Provide information and assistance with users on applications such as word processing and data entry

Assist with creating user accounts and providing end user training

Create and run reports.

Install upgrades and new or revised off-the-shelf/desktop releases

Set up, configure, install, and document hardware and software

Provide support for mobile computing devices and remote access

Perform inventory control duties

Provide cabling support

Prepare and maintain the documentation and standard operating procedures and checklists

Troubleshoot hardware and software problems.

Perform basic system support for telephone systems, such as additions, deletions, and moves

Customize programs for local needs and train personnel in their use

Monitor day-to-day operations of the equipment and systems

Recommend hardware, equipment, and software update

Recruit, train, and supervise IT work-study interns and volunteers

Provide technical assistance to media and outreach supervisor/coordinators to assist in producing high quality information about services

Work collaboratively with administrative supervisor and other staff to ensure proper database management

Requirements

A+ and Network+ Certification, or MCSE/MCP is a plus

Expert knowledge of MS Windows 2003, MS Window XP Pro, and MS office 2003

Proficient in Microsoft Office

Excellent problem solving and communication skills, along with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
